I had hopes for Graham Platner. While I was aware of his tattoo problem and past misadventures on internet forums, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and accept that he’d grown and learned from past stupidity. I certainly have, and most people I know have done regrettable things in their past. The majority of us do grow and learn.

The latest sexual assault accusations, however, are too much for me. They’re credible, and if I were to deny them or let them slide, I’d be no better than people who’ve done the same for Trump. Platner denies these charges vehemently, but I don’t believe him. In fact, it’s made me wonder about what else he’s lied about or has hidden from us.

The next obvious question is who can beat Susan Collins. There are currently several people in the mix. They’ll need to be a better human than Platner and will have to be able to reach the independents and Republicans who were inclined to support him—a tall order. Collins is a phony who’s got an undeserved reputation as a moderate. Yet, at almost every turn, when given the opportunity to rein in Trump’s extremism, she’s enabled him while occasionally feigning concern. It’s time for her to retire.
